Anyone do backrounds for their department?

So I just heard back today that I passed my oral board for a trainee postition at an agency. However I scored an 84.00 which got me ranked 7th.

According to the agency they only have 3-5 openings avaliable. So basically alteast 2 people have to get bounced from backrounds.

I was just wondering if anyone has done backrounds before and if there is a common "average" of how many people get bounced during the backround period.

This is my second time through backround with the same agency. I went though everything about a little over year ago execpt I was ranked number 2 after my oral.

After I completed everything in my backround I was contacted by the hiring LT. and she informed me that she felt I was too young to start a career in LE. I was 20 years old at the time of submitting my original application, and suggested that I became a CO, or CSO for a year. Then come back and test again.

Anyways If any of the LEO's have any input please share (You can make up a number to me to make me feel better :laughing :shhh)

Thanks in advance...

I'm not a LEO, but I can share my experience of the hiring process.
Right now I'm testing with "an agency". Out of the 87 people who passed the written, 9, including myself:)banana ) made it past the initial background interview. The failure rate for my group was high, according to my background investigator, about 20% make it past backgrounds, then more are cut as the process continues.
I actually just took the polygraph (for the first time) today. That was......umm....unpleasant:|
Good luck

You're golden. There is no way all of the folks in front of you will pass background. We wash over 80% during the background process.

One hint for you....do not lie. Not even about the smallest thing. That's what costs most applicants.

We wash so many, I don't even pay attention until they are sworn.

And, ditto, on the lying. Most things can be dealt with if you are up front about it. But once you lie, and it doesn't really matter about what, you are done.

Good luck.

I hope im Golden! My last time through I didnt lie about anything...I really dont have anything to lie about to tell the truth. My dad has been in LE for over 30 years and I wanted to work in LE since I was young. He always reminded me when I was younger that what I do now can hurt me later in life with my career. It sounds kind of sad but I have been gearing my life for a career in LE ever since I was about 17.:laughing

I just hope I dont go through all the testing and sign a conditional hiring agreement for the second time and then get hit with this again.....

Thank you all for your input. :)

I know. Once you're on the list, you're on it for 2 years. If you don't make that first wave, you're pretty much out of it, but I've got a really good job now, so oh well right? Missed my chance :rolleyes

Just chiming in real quick, dont get your hopes up on the "conditional offer of employment." Round file it or use it as the liner on your trash can.

But beware of the "thin white envelope.":loser
