Also, since getting a brand new battery the bike is still low on starting juice if I don't ride it for a couple of days without a trickle charger. I don't think this is normal.

Regarding the battery, measure the current whith everything turned off and key removed. Don't turn anything on while the meter is connected or you may destroy it.

Hey Tom really you can't see the photos? How about in other posts on this thread. Can you see any of those?

I see them fine here but they are Google Photos links so they could possibly have some kind of privacy settings on them.

Yeah I'll do that with the battery.

BTW for anyone interested, I figured out how to post photos here directly from Google Photos links.
(1) create a public album
(2) go to that album in Google Photos, select the photo you want to post. Don't use the link function in the app. Click on the photo to see it enlarged, and use your browser's "copy-image-link" function. The link will be really long and look something like
Code:

(note that the image size can be set in the url using "w={width}-h={height}")

That's it. You can tell if it worked by looking at your post (or a preview of it) in incognito mode.

2020-08-20 (odo 8875) -- Replaced Both Fork Seals

I tried doing this last December when I replaced one of the fork tubes but I accidentally bought '05 GSXR 600/750 seals instead of '06, which is what Shitbike has. So I ended up putting it all back together with the old seals. Within a couple of months both forks were leaking again. The oil leaked onto my front brakes and tire so I knew I'd have to do it again.

This time I got the correct '06 GSXR fork seals (41mm) and replaced them at Moto Guild. I found this video very helpful. It took almost 5 hours but I think I could do it in 3 now. Thanks to Alex for sticking around an hour after they closed so I could finish.

Total cost for seals, fork oil, and shop time: $180

haha finally figured out how to add google photos.

TODO:
* give the brake pads a good cleaning. They still have fork oil on them. And bleed the brakes.
* Left-side handlebar controls need replacing. Particularly the horn button only occasionally works.
* chain oiler stopped working. either fix or remove.
* replace tires. front first.
* Fix headlight electronics. High beam not working.
* replace front seat cover. The rips have gotten big.
* replace throttle cables with longer set.

I don't think you can clean oily brake pads. My experience has been you need to replace them.

2020-09-16 Replaced seat cover, installed LED headlight bulbs

I got this seat cover from a seller on ebay for $40. I had it sitting around for almost a year and finally had it installed by American Auto Upholstery on Broadway in Oakland for $60.

The LED headlights are Cougar Motor X-Small H7 LED Headlight Bulb, 10000Lm 6500K All-in-One Conversion Kit - Cool White.

The light is brighter than I expected. Only low beam works for now. I need to fix the circuit.

They fit into the Buell XB12 headlight assembly.

The fan part sticks out farther than the rubber cover so I made cutouts for them.

neat. i'd probably punch a few inlet holes in the covers too so the incoming air has somewhere to come from otherwise you're not going to get much flow. furthermore i might locate them such that if any moisture gets in those same inlet holes are also drain holes. furthermore i sometimes overthink things, so ymmv

Yeah I was thinking that too. There is a hole in the center for an auxiliary bulb that doesn't get used so I was thinking that hole.

2020-11-15 Replaced left handlebar switch assembly: Fixed front-end wiring in general.

When I got the bike there was no spedometer/tachmeter, and no indicators other than an oil light mounted on a piece of cardboard. Last year I added a Trailtech Vapor and the indicator dashboard and wired it up quick and dirty from the loose harness wires and looking through the schematic I found online. I knew eventually I'd need to deal with the left handlebar controls. The horn button in particular seemed to work randomly, and the high beam wasn't working. Last week I finally got around to fixing all that. I totally rewired the headlights so now both nice new bright white LEDs work great, and I got a replacement switch assembly on ebay. It appears to be brand new. Getting at the connector was kind of a pain but it is now done! For these I used 3.9mm Japanese bullet connectors and reinforced the crimps with solder. All the wiring for the front-end works and won't need to be messed with for a long time. I tidied the wiring up using lots of cable ties and wrapped everything up in flex-tubing, and routed the tubing to be as unobtrusive as I could and then cable tied that all down to keep it from shaking around a lot.

There is one more issue I need to deal with before I say this bike is all good, and that's the ignition switch. Ever since I got the Shitbike, I very seldomly experienced the ignition randomly cutting off. One time it happened while I was riding in traffic on MLK Blvd in Oakland. The bike just went dead. Then would magically start working again almost at random, but in hindsight it was because there was a loose connection in the ignition switch that would work again after the wires got jiggled around. I thought it was a few things. First, I thought it was the infamous "green connector problem" (look it up), so I cut the connector and directly wired the ignition with spade connectors. I thought that fixed it but then a few months later it happened again. This time I brought it to Hayasa and has Tyler and Anton look at it. Anton discovered that the tip-over switch seemed to be malfunctioning so we bypassed it and the bike worked again so I thought it was fixed. Then it happened again. The last few times it happened I figured out that I could jiggle the ignition wires and it would work again, so I realized it was the ignition switch itself, or possibly the connections to the wires. So last week I went ahead and bought a new ignition switch with new keys, and a new gas cap and helmet lock to all work with the new keys. I still need to install that.
