2008 SV650 Shitbike II thread

feeling good, not bad
Hi all, I have been meaning to start a thread as sort of a journal for this bike. So here goes...let the rest be history.

VIN# JS1VP53A482101748

I think FreeRyde created the Shitbike 650, one of several shitbikes that he speaks of in the BARF literature. This one Shitbike II is apparently the second one he did. Thanks to Heath at Cycle Gear in Hayward who informed me of this BARF legend.

Oh yeah, under my tenure, shitbike has been up to 36,through mendo, los padres, big sur, explored multiple forestry roads around Sonora pass. There have been a few niggles, hiccups and quirks along the way, but Shitbike lives on:ride

04-20-2019 matty offers shitbike II for sale

SOLD.
The details:
2008 SV650 salvage title
Tank is dented and bike has scratches, dings, scuffs and character but mechanically sound.
Roughly 31K miles
Reg is due in May
$1400 ish
Lowish mileage front tire (pilot power 3)
Sprockets, Chain, stem bearings and battery were replaced about 3500 miles ago.
Valves were done about 9K miles ago.
Fuel pump and filter were flushed last year

What it has:
Brembo 19x18 master cylinder (no switch)
05 GSXR front end
05 GSXR shock
DL650 throttle and clutch cables
Tested frame sliders
Swingarm spools
SV racing rear sets
Hot bodies undertail
Rear seat cowl(plus an extra flat plate for touring.)
Leo Vince full exhaust (rashed can)
Buell headlights and screen
Pro Taper bars
Shad racks with "custom" wood top plate
Generic top case
Plumbing and wire for trail tech temp gauge

Comes with a stock exhaust in excellent condition.

No gauges, (I've been using a GPS).
It's 500 miles overdue for an oil change.
Right fork seal may need servicing fixed.
Rear tire will need to be replaced within the next 1k miles or so.
A few niggles here and there.

Full disclosure: A couple of times it stalled on me, last year, when I'd crack the throttle wide open at high altitude, I flushed the fuel pump/filter and haven't been able to replicate the stall since and I've tried.

This bike was originally owned by freeryde, his ad here and then kawikiwi his ad here . I think kawikiwi told me he put about 3K miles on it (?, feel free to chime in KK), in the months that he had it. I've put just a hair over 3,500 miles on it during my tenure. This would also be a pretty good track bike, with a few tweaks.

Usual stuff applies: cash/M1, you drop it, you bought it, not that I'd be able to tell. If I can't sell it for at least $1300, I'll probably just keep it.

Thanks in advance

Holy Fuck! this Bike is a Legend!
The shitbike! It lives!!!

5/2019 erensi buys the shitbike from matty for $1500 from a craigslist ad

so that was the history. Here's what I have done and some issues addressed, and current issues:

5/2019 Installed a Trail Tech Vapor. Still having issues with the tach signal.
New rear tire (Michelin Pilot Power 2CT)
Mysterious stalling problem returns with a vengeance (but gets fixed). The bike stalled on me several times in traffic. Digging through the electronics and searching online, I discovered the infamous SV650 green-connector problem. Green connector looked corroded so I bypassed it using spade connectors
WkKE10VuRKGjHiAyKTXYHTiBAgP7oHMamK3NMTNeZNBVmKaEY0m7PlAIPKhsKiL4mJuxjvCq1COPS8FA0Pm98J11TlvvjFYRg7ti2g7yoTs6kQF6zkdq3zP6reMtG4UqIKo3TC2s=w300

The stalling continued until I found and fixed the faulty tip-over switch.
Tightened loose steering-stem bearings. No more front-end chatter.

7/2019 Got a bigger topbox (MMG 51L quick-release) and installed fresh reflective insulation
Got Puig windscreen for longer trips

9/2019 Replaced turn signals with animated LEDs. Installed a brake indicator switch (double banjo bolt) on front Brembo master cylinder, replaced brake lines.
New headlight bulbs, New throttle, new clutch cable. New DID chain installed at Hayasa.
new front tire (Michelin Pilot Power 2CT) at odo ~5000 miles. Rear tire almost dead.

Installed a Gidibi (Nemo 2) chain oiler

As of this post I've put about 5200 miles on. Mileage estimated at 32000 + odo reading.

Current issues:
scibPe0BdhEwjksO7PO4MQ0hdhZYXQY_okhEOzqdusw58Zwx_PWDYzcRqz2Y7WQ1Y6_Jl-NBvgydcmoHZoELHpfIa37EBRagz7kOV9owTcCX3xLFfJXfqFvFr1ellpkMP0ja6Iao=w500

Leaking right-side fork seal due to fork tube pitting. :(
Rear subframe is twisted a little bit clockwise (cosmetic)
Horn randomly stops working sometimes (maybe faulty control switches)

This is so cool! :cool Except for loosing "fuck you".

Yeah I got it that way. I didn't know there had been a fuck you until I saw it here. How can I restore the "FUCK YOU" in the original lettering?

Given the theme of the bike: however the hell you want

I'd probably scratch it in with a screwdriver then fill in the scratches with black paint. Then sand and clear... no, I'd just leave the scratches

I took that bike all over, up north, down south, it lived in the Sierra for a summer. The fuck you was already starting to come off when I got it, my tank bag made it worse and eventually when I was living with the nice mountain folk, I just removed it, cause you know, it wasn't Oakland. Don't like it? Fuck you:twofinger

Suh Dude
I have the original SVG if you want to recreate the sticker :rofl

Though next time around the bottom letters should be thicker so they dont peel off easily.

2019/12/15 @ odo 6868mi Replaced leaking right side fork tube with a used '06 GSXR 600 tube I got on ebay. I accidentally ordered '05 seals instead of '06 and they didn't fit, so I re-used the seal already on the replacement. No more leaking! Also changed out the oil in both forks and set preload and damping settings to stock.

I got help from Dieter at Moto Guild.

2019-12-28 Stolen & Recovered Police said they located it via LoJack, which was a surprise to me. I never saw a LoJack on it. Good job OPD.

Edit: Nevermind, looks like it's a one time fee.

Interesting, LoJack is subscription based isn't it? You aren't paying a subscription, I'm not paying, I suspect Victor and FreeRyde aren't either. Does LoJack still work for police? I might just have to buy LoJack for my current bikes.
