    Austin...

15 years in the sf-bay (11 in barf, though dormant mostly). A permanent move to Austin (with family) is in the works. Other than a 3 day visit a few months back, Austin will be all-new to me. Would love to hear the good/bad/tips/comments/suggestions from folks here. Anyone here did the...

Did not ride for a couple of months... now when I start the bike ('02 SV), there is fuel dripping to the road. Can't exactly say from where. I am in north Fremont. Can someone help me figure this out, or help me take (tow) it to a repair shop? Many thanks!

    Front forks feeling squishy

Today after I parked at work in the morning, after putting the side stand on I noticed the bike moves quite a bit when say pulling on the handle bar or the rear grab bar from one side. It definitely seems like the front forks have become so easy to push in/out. But while riding I can't tell...

    Suggestions for riding pants

Have been using just knee armors, boots and jeans for my daily commute... With the temperatures dropping, I am thinking of getting full riding pants. Leather would be nice but not a requirement since I am sure they will be expensive. Years ago, I used to have a (sub $100) Joe-Rocket...

Any diff between '01-02 SV650/SV650s gas tank...?

Mine is a '02 SV650s. Want to buy this tank bra which the seller has listed specifically for a '01 SV650. He also has another color listed for a '02 SV650s. But AFAIK, both should be the same, and I prefer to get the red (listed for '01 naked SV) for my '02 SV650s

    Isopropyl alcohol on helmet visor?

Isopropyl alcohol for helmet visor cleaning - is that a no no? That is what it seems like. See this: http://simpsonraceproducts.com/safety-helmets/ "SHIELD Shields should be cleaned with window cleaner or 100% pure isopropyl alcohol (do not use rubbing alcohol, must be 100%). Do not use any...

KTM 640 (vs KLR 650), your thoughts?

The KLR-650 has always been on my wish list, the only reason being its 6 gal gas tank with a large range... Recently I met a fellow barfer and was pleasantly surprised about the 7 gal tank on his KTM 640. So now that gets added to my wish list... How are these for regular highway commuting...

Noticed the new carpool lane signs on 880 today. They are from 5 AM to 7 PM. Cannot NOT like it. Assuming it is temporary due to the BART strike? I wouldn't mind it that way for good!

Why not make the shoulder legal for motorcycles?

This thread/video claiming lane splitting is safer brings me to ask something I have always wondered. Why not make the shoulder legal for motorcycles? My thinking is that cars should not use the shoulder because an emergency vehicle (ambulance etc) may need to use it. There could be other...

Updating signature - can that get applied to all previous posts as well, just like changing your avatar? That seems more logical.

Have you taken the MSF or equivalent training?

Have you taken the MSF or a equivalent formal training? Though "probably will" and "probably won't" are technically the same, the former means a higher chance of yes and the latter means a higher chance of no. Hence those options...

New corbin on my SV, miss the lean forward posture

Today, I went from this to The corbin is nice (used to have it on my previous standard SV long time back), however I miss the slightly more lean forward sportier posture (SV650s). Now it feels more like a standard bike.

    Recommendation for a spine/back protector

Have been using my icon motorhead jacket(s) all along. I am now thinking that a spine/back protector may be a good addition. My time on the bike is 100% 880 commute. Question to regular commuters: Do you generally wear a spine guard in addition to the jacket (inside/outside?)? And any good...
