    Splitting in the dark, ick.

Time-zone change caught me by surprise. Wasn't prepared for splitting home in the dark on 280 S. First day of it I went too fast, mirror tap, not good, been 7 years since I did that. Pesky black (invisible) giant truck mirrors... :facepalm I once vowed I would never do that again, time to...

I'm getting old, so I got a Harley

Seriously, I need comfort, and cruisers are the ticket, my butt has been hurting for weeks on my old bike in ways you have to be older to understand, Corbin seat wasn't enough. So, since I was going to buy a cruiser (been wanting one for a while anyway), and had to choose between Honda (or...

Is a trike legal for lane splitting?

This came up in general, if it's legal I have to apologize. There are several recent sightings of folks splitting with one.

Guy in a Can-Am-like trike splitting down 280

Doubt it was a real Can-AM, it was a reverse trike, but smaller and very low to the ground (so not very visible to cagers). From my little adv bike I was looking way down at him. I guess trikes have to be built low so they can corner. I watched him split for a long way, 5:40ish today. After...

Noise woes, is a Schuberth worth it?

My wind screen height experiment failed, no options were quiet enough. So looking at better helmet and earplug options. Have: Shoei Neotec + Howard Leight Max plugs, not enough... Bought a Gt-Air, quieter at low speeds but at 70 it's still loud enough my ears ring after every ride. It's...

Wind screen height, which do you prefer?

I recently pinned my wind noise problem to the height of my windscreen. My helmet was quiet with the stock low (chest exposed) windscreen. But upgrading to the 'tall' (chin-level) windscreen for my bike, let's call it medium height for now, is a buffeting nightmare, even with earplugs my ears...

1st ride in 2 years, preparing to commute again

After a week to get the garage-queen road-ready, I took it out today. Felt good, really good, familiar, like coming home to an old friend. After methodically going through bike handling skills, and eventually getting on the freeway, I realized I wasn't as rusty as I was expecting. I spent...

    It's a Honda

I have a garage queen, a 2014 Honda CB500X (the little twin, not the CBR), because I stopped riding two years ago. It was only a year old at the time, and I never got around to selling it, and now I am feeling like riding again... I saved all my gear too. I guess once a rider, always a rider...

    DOD funding some miltary motos

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2015/01/03/3-coolest-special-operations-vehicles-2014/ Their stealth moto is a gas-electric hybrid, and in all electric mode produces 1/4 the noise, has two wheel drive, and my fave, is "designed to be dumped, dropped, slid, tipped, crashed – and keep on performing"...

    My new ride, EcoReco M5

Don't panic, I am keeping the moto. The new ride isn't even a motorcycle even though it has two wheels and an engine. It got me to work nicely this morning, took about 10 min longer than a bike, but I fumbled a few things since my first time commuting on caltrain (I took the wrong train, had to...

    No rain thread yet?

Ok I'll start one - yay, it's raining, and on Halloween no less. Anybody ride in to work today? I did, but kinda by accident. It was sunny when I left for work today, fooled me into thinking it was yet another false alarm. The last two rain predictions for SJ didn't rain at all on my commute...

    I have a dream

My dream is a moto with a volume control on the pipe. Some of you may remember I have posted some rants about stuff like this that bordered on the ravings of someone slightly unhinged. This time I think I am approaching reality, and what is possible and even reasonable (in the minds of some...

    Modding a Yoshi R77 baffle

I have a Yoshi R77 slip-on arriving soon. Internet reviews and videos seem like it won't be loud enough with the baffle in (said to be no louder than stock) and too loud (for street use) with it out. What I want is a little louder than stock, but not so loud as to annoy my many neighbors. I...

Which of these guys is the bigger jerk

Or is it neither. Hint, one of them is me. Edit: The guy apologized profusely to me today for parking too close to me. All is forgiven.

    School me on turn-in

If a bike is too willing to turn, meaning once you start the turn you have to apply pressure to stop it from leaning more is that what you call too much turn-in? And can higher tire pressure do that? I noticed this feeling after I upped the front tire pressure. I don't like it.

Middle of July, middle of a drought. Weird. Be careful.

Possible rider down on 280 N (near Meridian exit, 7:00 am)

Moto looked ok, but the huge bloodstain didn't. I now have two of those on my commute, somber reminders to be careful out there. Best wishes rider and family.

My new moto has taken over my life...

For some reason I really like this bike (Honda CB500X), but it isn't that different from other bikes. I have been working on it every weekend since I got it and really enjoying it. This is the first bike I have decided to do my own work on (minus valve checks, I am not up for that yet). It...

    Some more great local vendors

I know we have a lot of great local vendors, here are two that me (apparently still a noob) didn't know were local: Corbin is in Gilroy, and has a ride-in service, and will customize your new seat for you while you wait at no extra charge (5 hours of waiting though), appointment only. So guess...
