to remove the YSR50 motor.. the chain is in the way. Is it safe to remove that left side cover to be able to remove the chain?

As i was dismantling my 89 YSR 50, i found that one of the previous owners had covered the little vent holes all over the air box with Duct Tape. Any ideas why? thanks

Ok.. .so i have an '89 YSR. Had trouble firing it up a couple weeks ago. It did not want to crank over. The rear wheel would just lock up. Finally it fired up. Then i fired it up this weekend and it had trouble again. finally fired up and oil... straight oil... is flying out of the exhaust...
