    East Bay HVAC recommendations?

With WFH x hot summers I think it's time to look into a mini split system for the house. Does teh BARFs have anyone they've worked with before and would recommend? I checked the BARF yellow pages but didn't see anyone in HVAC.

Lease Specials - how do they work?

Do folks actually pay asking for leases, or is it all smoke and mirrors? I've been reading tales on the EV forums of "I went to the dealership and between incentives and federal tax credits I paid $0 down and got a new 500e/Leaf/BVolt/Golf for $200/mo with tax". Drawn in by an attractive...

School me on.. living in Pinole and El Sobrante

We've loved living in Oakland - great neighbors, nice weather, good grocery stores, etc - but we need more space for, uh, reasons. We've been looking at Pinole and El Sobrante and it seems like a pocket of relatively affordable housing, with great access to nature, low crime, and still...

A gem in Marin, a turd in Alameda?

Warning; this is long and boring. The last few weeks / months I've been feeling like I'm bad at motorcycles. My usual routes are the east Bay's Skyline, Redwood, Grizzly Peak, Palomares, Three Bears Loop, etc. My R1200R feels like it's fueling unevenly / bucking ever so slightly, with wheel...

Mt Hamilton and Mines - how goaty?

Total noob question. I've been riding for years but mostly in the North Bay and the peninsula. Somehow I've never got around to checking out the Junction or the associated twisty looking ways to get there. How goaty and gravely are 130 and Mines Road back into Livermore? Better to go clockwise...

Alignment: How long after suspension work is too long?

I might have a chance to do a 'quick' tie rod end change on the cage on Friday. However, I won't be able to get an alignment done until Monday at the earliest. Is it bad news bears to do a hundred miles or so before an alignment, and/or will the car have a mind of its own in the interim?

Bounty Hunters Had Access to AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint Customer Location Data for Years

Between at least 2012 until it closed in late 2017, CerCareOne allowed bounty hunters, bail bondsmen, and bail agents to find the real-time location of mobile phones. The company would sometimes charge up to $1,100 per phone location, according to a source familiar with the company. Motherboard...

Car Roof Box security vs trunk?

Hi all As we're all aware, the trunk of a vehicle is not very secure in this day and age. Doubly so in an SUV / hatchback / wagon etc. Unfortunately, I don't have the kind of lifestyle where I don't need to carry anything ever and never need to leave it in the car rather than schlepping it into...

6/5/2019 - Rider Down 580 WB at Toll Plaza

Passed a big commotion at the 580 / 80 carpool lane merge this morning around 8am. CHP and ambulance on scene. Maroon SV650S on a tow truck. Rider was talking to a paramedic, seemed alert. I hope everyone is ok.

No Parking - No Notice Period

I came home tonight to find - not for the first time - contractors in the neighborhood have posted 'no parking - tow away' notices on our street... starting at 7am tomorrow. The law says 72 hours notice has to be given, but they sure weren't out when I left today. It's not the end of the world...

    SF: BMW F800 keys, 9th St, 2019-05-09

Grey F800 ST or GT parked at a meter on 9th around Bryant. You left your keys in your hard case. I left you a business card. PM me if it's you.

    Uber Strike - Tolerable Traffic

I understand that Uber drivers are on strike today, protesting ever decreasing wages and 'job' security. Am I imagining it, or is traffic in and around downtown SF flowing smoothly with a minimum of aggravation, honking, and near misses?

    Madrid and Barcelona recommendations

I'm rounding out a trip with 48 hours in Madrid (first time) and a couple of days in Barcelona. I know the latter reasonably well, but always open to learning of a new hidden gem. Madrid I know nothing about. Food, art, bars, food, architecture, food... I'm too old for clubs. Any 'can't miss'...

    Where is everybody?

At least as far back as last fall Folsom St has been a parking lot at all hours, it's been sidewalk gridlock throughout Soma, the onramps have moved like meat grinders jammed with molasses and wasps, and the only space on Bart has been in the damp embrace of a stranger's armpit. Since Monday...

    Reputable Furnace maintenance - installation?

I have a Carrier gas furnace in our 900sf home which is probably from the Reagan administration. It works fine, but out of an abundance of caution I'd like to get someone to (1) give it it's first tune up and inspection of the decade and (2) give us an estimate of remaining life and replacement...
