Slow to update this week since I was working on my truck... couple updates:
- Got intake manifolds and exhaust back, exhaust is all done - will be adding retaining springs and move on to work on the subframe / tail / mount concept.
The hypermotard throttle bodies don't fit with the superbike frame's cross member, but with slight extension of the intake manifolds (and spacing it away from the cross member) - they will fit. Alternatives - and what I've seen most of these similar builds do - is to cut the cross member out, or to split the throttle bodies. Cutting the cross member is obviously not ideal, and splitting the throttle bodies (an option I originally pursued) requires a custom throttle cable that would be annoying to keep synchronized and would have to be pull-only. Most modern throttles are push-pull as a redundant safety mechanism and the metal rod that links the throttle bodies is much more accurate than synching two cables. Anyway... pics:
Mounted up with throttle bodies, fits perfectly:
I pulled the TBs back out for a thorough cleaning and to make the new fuel lines for them. Last tubular piece to be made is a 90 degree elbow for the intake pods.
Exhaust:
And somewhat moto-relevant to this project, I picked up a truck to haul bikes and bike parts around - as well as Tahoe duty. Here's a dual purpose ski / snowboard mount and gas can holding rack that has been keeping me from the bike stuff:
