Cone Peak features the steepest coastal elevation
in the lower 48 United States, rising nearly a mile
above sea level, only three miles (5 km) from the Pacific Ocean.
Its average gradient from sea level to the summit is about 33%,
which is steeper on average than the gradient from
Owens Valley to Mount Whitney. There's a five mile
road up Cone Peak from Nac-Ferg, but it has been
closed since 2012, I think ... :nchantr
I also think Nac-Ferg goes through
the saddle to the left ... :ride
The peak on the right is the tallest in the
Santa Lucia Range,
